Fortnite v9.20 Patch Notes

Fortnite is a permanently evolving game with frequent patches. Each typically contains a lot of balance changes and bug fixes. The really exciting thing about each update though is the new content. Fortnite is constantly being updated with brand new items and weapons. With each new introduction, the metagame changes and the strategies you have to use to keep winning games changes along with it. If you want to rack up Hype points in Arena to try and get into the Champions League in time for that last qualifying round of the Fortnite World Cup, you need to know about the latest additions to the game in v9.20.

The most recent update has finally added the Storm Flip item. This throwable has been the topic of rampant speculation over the last few days after Epic teased its arrival. It has the potential to really shake things up by giving players control of the storm. The update has brought a number of smaller fixes and alterations. However, it has done little to fix some of the bigger problems in the game. Ballers have stayed as overpowered as ever, casting a long shadow over the remaining rounds of the Fortnite World Cup. These are the major changes in the v9.20.

Weapons and Items in Fortnite v9.20

Fortnite V9.20

  • Storm Flip: This is a new throwable item that explodes on impact. It creates a sphere shaped zone. If you’re in the storm, this sphere will negate the storm and protect you. If you’re in a safe zone, it will create a storm zone to do damage. This lasts for 20 seconds. It is only available in the Epic rarity.
  • Hunting Rifle: All variations of the Hunting Rifle have been vaulted in v9.20.
  • Loot Carrier: Packages on the loot carries have been altered, the sniper package has been reduced from 12.5% to 8.45% and the explosive package has been reduced from 12.5% to 7.04%
  • Mounted Turret: The overheat now takes 20% longer to come into effect. This makes them a bit more viable with v9.20.
  • Boom Bow: The max charge time has been increased from 1 second to 1.25 seconds.
  • Reboot Van: Restored players will lose their invulnerability after shooting or building.
  • Air Vents: These Air Vents have been made more forgiving with fall damage, allowing players to use them a bit more.

Gameplay and Modes

Fortnite v9.20

  • Sword Fight: New mode added. In this game, infinity blades are back and in high numbers, sword fight until there’s only one player left. This is a good opportunity for new players to try out the item, a previously despised item that was quickly vaulted. Ever wondered why? Here’s your chance to try them out in this wonderfully broken new mode in Fortnite v9.20.
  • Auto Swap Material: This setting has been removed and is now set to always on. Not much of a change since most players had it enabled anyway.
  • Fortbytes: The Fortbytes awarded for finishing in the top 10 on each game mode has had their counts lowered to make this challenge easier.

These small adjustments should provide some quality of life improvements for most players. Epic has also added more support for accessible controllers, including foot controllers. This change won’t affect most players but it is nice to know that Epic is trying to make Fortnite accessible to anyone in v9.20.

These latest changes alter the game, especially the Storm Flip item. As a new Season 9 item, it joins some other new additions as the weapons you should be looking for. The loot carrier changes might have also affected your usual landing plan; in that case, you should refresh yourself on the best spots in Fortnite Season 9 to land if you want to win more games!
